The house is historic and once belonged to Iceland´s most famous composer Jón Leifs and plays an important role in the city’s history. It has been carefully restored over the last few years where the focus has been on replacing as little as possible, paying homage to its historical and cultural significance
The house is really well located, right in the center of Reykjavik. All the best restaurants are within 2-10 min walking distance. There are lots of attractions in a short walking distance and only a few steps and you are on Laugarvegur, the main shopping street in Reykjavik, with it´s buzzing cafes, shops and restaurants, as well as the main shopping street, Laugarvegur, with nice shops and cafés, and Skólavörðustígur, with art galleries and nice little shops.
Our street, Bókhlöðustígur, is a beautiful part of the old town. The houses were built in the 18th century (our house was built in 1887), which is VERY old in Icelandic terms as our buildings were constructed of such poor material that they didn't survive until modern days. Our house is among the oldest in Reykjavik and is preserved. The basement of our house is built from leftover stone that was used to build Althingi (parliament).
The house is also close to all the necessary amenities, such as grocery shop, bakery, swimming pool, bank, post office. The main bus station is also just a five minute walk from the house.
Please note that this is a family home. We welcome families and groups but please note that parties are not allowed. Even though the house is located in the heart of the city it´s still surrounded by families and we want to respect that.
Other Things to Note:
There are a lot of public parking spaces around the house and in the streets near the house. There is also a supermarket just up the corner with a lot of public parking spaces. The charge is around 150 ISK per hour, from 8 AM - 6 PM, free on Sundays.
