Summary: I came to Hacienda Roman knowing that in this part of Peru, you can't expect all the amenities like WiFi, cable TV, etc. If you go in with reasonable expectations, you'll be happy with this hotel.
The pros: Staff are quite nice. Food is tasty and available fresh on site. Personal attention, especially the tour of the coffee/jungle out back, is phenomenal. The entire stay was worth it just for this!!
The cons: Cooking is unbelievably slow; it took us no less than 1.5 hours to finish a meal due to slow service. (Forgetting to bring basic things like forks for everyone, then waiting 10 mins to get it). The whole place was under construction and thus very noisy and ugly from the outside. The hotel is VERY far from Santa Teresa, but if you're looking for "wilderness jungle" feel, forget it: The hotel is adjacent to several (poor) houses, taking away much of it's "nature" appeal. Finally, the hotel is VERY expensive for what you get.
Overall I feel bad giving a negative-ish review because the family who owns the place is so nice and attentive. However, there are just too many negatives to fully endorse Hacienda Roman. The jungle tour is priceless (nothing like eating a fresh banana or Mandarin from the jungle!) - and I would recommend this to other first-time tourists. However, I would not stay again myself. It's way too expensive and too far from town.
